Thanks to all the teams who wore pink and donated to Breast Cancer Now in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Aircare Thunder v Foxton Mavericks

First to the court on Saturday were Aircare Thunder against Foxton Mavericks. Aircare Thunder started well, particularly Liv Cockburn wearing the centre bib with her boundless energy that did not let up throughout the entire game. They stormed ahead to a 16-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the Mavericks managed to keep it a little closer, with Lucy Kirk Matthews applying pressure in defence. At half time the score stood at 27-17. Thunder pushed further ahead in the second half, despite some valiant interceptions in the last quarter from the Maverick’s Charlotte Marriott. Final score was 59-38 to Aircare Thunder.

PeActive v Siamo Sirens

On the other court, PeActive were up against the Siamo Sirens. PeActive came out with real energy and pushed ahead to a strong lead, with Weller Arnold on great shooting form from the first moment, taking PeActive to a 20-4 lead by the end of the first quarter. There was some fantastic play from end to end through the centre court for PeActive with Catherine Dear and Jackie Brookes on the wings connecting well. In the first half, Maisy Humphries donned the GA bib for the Sirens, putting up a strong show against a formidable PeActive defence. At half time the score was 39-8 to PeActive. Siamo Sirens did not let their heads drop. Keely Russel put in a stellar performance at goal keeper, keeping the pressure on and holding PeActive to 12 goals in the third quarter. The game ended 64-15

Club Correze v Vanelli Vixens

Next up, Club Correze took on the Vanelli Vixens in a nail biting game. The Vixens came out ready to play, taking the first quarter 14-9 with some spot on shooting from Maya Topping. In the second and third quarters, Club Correze came back fighting with turnover after turnover from Tori Wayman at wing defence. By the end of the third quarter the tables had really turned and Correze were leading 39 to 33. The Vixens came out valiantly in the last quarter. Esther Mears in the Vixens defence was on a mission to try and recover the game. The Vixens won the last quarter 11-7, but it wasn’t enough to take the game. Club Correze took the win 46-44.

Phoenix 58 v A Plan Emeralds

In the Phoenix 58 v A plan Emeralds game, Phoenix 58 went into the lead in the first quarter, despite some great connecting play in the centre court from the Emeralds’ Harriett Croft and Sarah Kirkwood. Phoenix stayed strong in the second quarter with some great interceptions mid-court from Jemma Shelbourne. At half time the score was 19-5 to Phoenix 58. In what was a relatively scoring game, Fiona French had a great third quarter in the Emeralds Defence limiting Phoenix to only 7 goals. However, in the final quarter, Phoenix 58 picked up the pace again with Lorna Croucher on fire in the attack. The game ended 39-7 to Phoenix 58.

Harriers v Turners Tornadoes​

In one of the final games of the day, Harborough Harriers took on Turners’ Tornadoes. It started close in the first quarter with Molly Beard and Abi York setting their intention for the Tornadoes defence, limiting the Harriers to 8 goals. The Harriers started to pull ahead a little further in the second quarter. By half time the score was 18-13 to Harriers. Lindsay Collins in Harriers defence continued to keep the pressure on, limiting the Turners attack in the third quarter. The Harriers centre court and attack stayed strong with some lovely drives through the court from Kerri Colquhoun. The game ended 42 – 28 to Harborough Harriers.

The final match of the day saw Foxton Flyers take on Welland Valley Blinders. It was looking to be a tight match with the first quarter finishing at 14-14. Frannie Simpson worked tirelessly at centre which gave flyers the lead by 5 goals, the score at half time was 32-27. Erin Hall supported providing strong defensive pressure throughout the game. Despite some exceptional shooting from Kyla Clipstone and some brilliant defensive work from Jo Dunn, Flyers took the game 61-47.
