Vanelli Vixens vs Aircare Thunder

In the first game of the afternoon on Court 1 Vanelli came out strong, winning some turnover ball and taking a 3-goal lead with clinical shooting from Jemima Kay in the first quarter. Aircare showed their experience by fighting back and started pulling away in the second quarter with Jodie Haynes (scorers POTM) at Goalkeeper dominating the circle and stifling the Vanelli attack, bringing the halftime score to 19-11. A super shooting demonstration by Ellie Chapman clocked up the goals for Aircare through the second half capitalising on ball gained in the mid-court by Liv Cockburn, who had a difficult battle against Katie Bensi (scorers POTM). In the final quarter Aircare continued to pull away. A strong performance giving them a 14-5 win in the final quarter, taking them to win 47-24.

Foxton Mavericks vs A-plan Emeralds

In the first game on court 2, Foxton mavericks started out very strong showing all their best play by amazing centre court work by Sarah Van Nierop (POTM) and Emily Bryan (POTM) allowing Mavericks to win the first quarter 12-1. In the second quarter Mavericks continued to extend their lead but A-plan showed great determination by some fabulous shooting by Nicola Allen (POTM). In the third quarter A- plan weren’t giving up from some outstanding defensive work by Kate Fennel (Scorers POTM) and Fiona French (POTM) to stop Mavericks from breaking through. However, the hard work and hunger from Foxton Mavericks meant that they extended their lead in the third quarter to 44-7. In the final quarter both teams still challenging one another until the very last second but Foxton Mavericks continued to work their way around A-plan Emeralds meaning they won the match 60-12.

Aircare Lightning vs Foxton Flyers

In the 2nd game on court 1, both Aircare Lightning and Foxton Flyers came out strong, bringing an extremely close game. In the first quarter, Flyers managed to edge ahead due to some strong defensive work, bringing the score to 13-10. Lightning came back fighting in the second quarter, and with some amazing shooting from GS Wendy Hayward and GA Hannah Foreman (scorers and players MVP) and they managed to pull it back to a draw, 21-21.

Coming into the final quarter, the match remained tight. Both teams showed grit and determination, however with some great shooting from Flyers’ Justine Tilson (scorers and players MVP), Flyers managed to take the win, finishing 42-41.

Lutterworth Robins vs Turners Tornadoes

Next up on court 2 was Lutterworth Robins vs Turners Tornadoes. In the first quarter it was an end-to-end game, with lots of turnovers, and the quarter finished 7-7. At the start of the second quarter, Turners came out very strong and gained a 6-goal lead, before Lutterworth hit back again to win the quarter by 2 goals (18-16), despite Turners scorer’s POTM Molly Beard putting in a big shift to keep her side within touching distance. The game was rather intense in the first half, both teams were hungry for the ball, but in the 3rd quarter, Lutterworth stepped up to extend their lead to 30-22, with some excellent shooting from Lutterworth scorers POTM Skye Castle, whilst Turners struggled in the attacking third thanks to Robins GD Ella Moffatt. Lutterworth Robins finished the game strongly, as the fourth quarter finished 14-9, and the game ended 44-31. Turners took more of their turnovers to goal and converted more of their centre passes, but it was a very challenging game for both sides.

Harborough Harriers vs Phoenix 58

In the last match of the day, the first C pass started with Harborough Harriers. The first quarter was very close as both sides came out strong and were determined to win the ball. By quarter time Phoenix were leading by 14 goals to 9. In the second quarter Phoenix 58 continued to extend their lead as the powerful defence of Katie Hillerberg (POTM) turned over multiple balls to allow Phoenix’s Emily Dove to score as she astonished everybody by her amazing shooting skills. Leaving the score at half time 27-16.

However, in the third quarter Harriers didn’t give up and were still hungry for the ball. Great defending work from Harriers, Molly Walker (POTM) and Lindsey Collins. However, Phoenix continued with strong play getting the ball securely down court to finish the 3rd quarter at 41-19.In the last quarter Phoenix 58 proceeded to extend their lead by exceptional defence by both players in the circle. However, Harborough Harriers kept pushing by some fabulous linking play from Grace Walker into the shooting circle. However, it just wasn’t enough for Harriers to break through as Phoenix 58 ended the match with a 57-22 win.
