Winter League 2021/2022 Round 19

 

Foxton Mavericks v Airecare Lightning

This week’s league fixtures kicked off on Thursday evening with a match between Foxton Mavericks and Aircare Lighting. Mavericks, who have been in top form this season, dominated the game from the first centre pass. Emily Bryan fed the ball into the shooters with ease, despite pressure from Lightnings Karen Glasson at centre. At half time, the score was 34-12 to Mavericks.

More of the same in the second half, with Mavericks pushing even harder to up their goal tally. Lightnings Hannah Forman was on point in the circle for her team, however defensive pressure from Mavericks Julia Trapp kept Lightnings score line down. Mavericks took the game 75-29.

 

Snowfinders v Club Correze

Saturday’s fixtures started with Snowfinders and Club Correze taking to court. Snowfinders who are starting to find their feet in the league, were keen to prove themselves against a tough Club Correze. Snowfinders centre court were impressive throughout, with Becca Wayman and Hattie Bates linking up easily to work the ball down the court. However, Club Correze were strong across the court and were in the lead 31-17 at half time.

In the second half, despite pressure from Snowfinders, Club Correze’s shooter Andrea Flewitt, rarely missed a shot and was backed up excellently by Kim Dalton at Centre. The match ended with a convincing win for Cub Correze, with a score of 61-31.

 

Harborough Harriers vs Welland Valley Blinders

Next up was Harborough Harriers and Welland Valley Blinders. Harriers were quick to take the lead, with a battle of the centre court with Gill Hancock and Jess Davies for Harriers, and Krish Darji for Blinders, battling it out in the centre court. Harriers were in the lead by 20 goals at half time, with a score of 22-2.

Sarah Royle stepped it up a gear in the second half in the defensive circle for Harriers and despite defensive pressure by Vanessa Barker and Karena Donowa-Matthew for Blinders, Harriers continued to push on. The game ended with a strong win for Harriers, taking the win 45-5.

 

Foxton Mavericks Vs Turners Tornados

Following Thursday’s game, Foxton Mavericks continued their winning streak against Turners Tornados. The first half of the game was fairly close, with both teams scoring plenty of goals. Tornados Ella Beadle and Bridget Butler linked up well in the attacking circle to put Tornados into a decent position going into the second half, trailing Mavericks by 8 goals.

Both of Mavericks wings, Charlotte Asprey and Jenny Dance, supported their team well in the second half and took it up a level, pushing on to score a massive 47 goals. In the end, the score was 80-39 to Foxton Mavericks.

 

Aircare Thunder vs CC Wellbeing

Aircare Thunder and CC Wellbeing took to court next, with some exciting match ups across the court. CC Wellbeing were fast to up their goal tally, with excellent play between the attacking trio of Jackie Brookes, Clair Brutnall-Cotes and Rachel Blakey. At the half time break, CC Wellbeing were leading 20-3.

In the latter half of the game, Thunders defence were keen to keep CC Wellbeings score line down, with Maisie Williamson and Jodie Haines collaborating well to turnover ball. Despite Thunders Heather Wainwright working tirelessly to deliver the ball to her shooters, Thunder couldn’t keep up with the flow of CC Wellbeing, who took the win 33-6.

 

Aircare Lightning vs Foxton Flyers

The final game of the day was between Aircare Lightning and Foxton Flyers. Lightning was quick out the blocks at the first centre pass, with Charlotte Mathers feeding some excellent balls to Emma Hadkiss in the shooting circle. At half time, the score was 25-10 in favour of Lightning.

In the latter half of the game, Flyers were determined to narrow the score line, with the attacking line up of Sara Mangan, Laura Burgess and Ang Brooks working hard to up the goal tally. Despite their best attempts, Flyers were unable to catch up with Lightning, who took the win 52-25.
