Round 10 Matches

Match report 18/11/23

The opening matches of the day were unfortunately unable to go ahead due to safety concerns on court and will be rescheduled.

Therefore, the first match to take place was between Phoenix 58 and Aircare Thunder. The match kicked off with both teams displaying a high level of intensity and determination, albeit with very different styles of play. Phoenix 58 swiftly took control of the court, with Nadine Key, the defensive pillar for Phoenix 58, proving to be a formidable force in intercepting passes and disrupting Aircare Thunder's attacking plays. Hayley Key facilitated smooth transitions up and down the court, but Aircare Thunder fought back valiantly, with Ellie Chapman on fire as GA.The score at half time was a close 22-17 to Phoenix 58, and the stronger team continued to build their lead with a high-scoring third quarter thanks to WA Hannah Stratton’s well-timed and strategic passes. Despite Aircare Thunder losing their flow towards the end of the match, Elise Tear was an excellent match for Hayley Key at C, whilst Jodie Haines’ relentless defence at GK made it difficult for Phoenix 58’s shooters to find the net. However, on this occasion it wasn’t enough to prevent Phoenix 58 from securing a convincing victory of 51-36.

The other match of the day was between Foxton Flyers and PE Active. Foxton Flyers displayed commendable teamwork throughout the match, with Sara Mangan at GS maintaining accuracy and contributing significantly to her team's final score. Defensively, Becky Deacon managed to disrupt PE Active's offensive plays, whilst Erin Hall demonstrated excellent interception skills. However, on the opposing side, PE Active's Weller Arnold took centre stage at GS, shooting with beautiful finesse. Paired up with Vicki Holman at GA, the duo worked efficiently together, Vicki contributing some crucial assists. Finally, at the opposite end of the court, Cheryl Smith, GK for PE Active, read the game perfectly, able to anticipate Flyers' passes and execute timely interceptions, allowing PE Active to run away with the lead. The final score ended 54-31 to PE Active.
