Winter League 2022/2023 Round 2

 

Cheryl Claire Wellbeing vs A Plan Emeralds

We saw CC well-being take on our newest team, A plan Emeralds in one of the first games on this sunny Saturday.

CC’s dominated the first quarter with some impressive shooting by Cheryl Smith and Ali Bailey. Resulting in a 10-goal lead at the end of the first quarter.
However, the Emeralds shone bright in the third quarter with some well executed defence by Fiona French. Accurate goals by A Plan’s Sophie White and Georgia Midgley meant that both teams matched goal for goal in the third quarter.

Despite their best-efforts A plan emeralds were defeated with the final score being a respectable 41-25 to Cheryl Claire Wellbeing.

 

Welland Valley Blinders vs Turners Tornadoes

Tornadoes flew out of the blocks to win the first quarter 16-1. They kept their foot on the pedal with Laura Brookes at goal attack shooting with pinpoint accuracy. Despite the best efforts of the Blinders defense balls from Charlotte Stokes continued to fly into the D. At the end of the first half Tornadoes had increased their lead to 32-3.

Cora Coyle worked tirelessly in centre court, forcing turnovers which were quickly converted by Olivia Hampton-Riddington at goal attack.

Sadly, some unforced errors and seemingly impenetrable Tornadoes defense meant that Blinders were defeated 62 goals to 8.

 

Aircare Lightning vs Foxton Mavericks

The following game saw Aircare Lightning take on Foxton Mavericks.
Mavericks started strongly with some convincing centre court play and movement in the shooting circle. Karen Glason worked hard in centre court to provide Lightning with as many shooting opportunities as possible. Despite this, the first half ended 31-16 to Foxton Mavericks.

The third quarter saw Lightning fight back, the combination of Hannah Forman at goal shooter and Emma Hadkiss at goal attack found their rhythm, barely missing a shot! Lightning won the third quarter 11 goals to 9.

Undeterred, the Mavericks defense remained strong, with Jenny Dance at goal defense and Jodie Bellamy at goalkeeper, the pair only conceded 3 goals in the last quarter.

At the final whistle; Foxton Mavericks 51 Aircare Lightning 30. 

 

Aircare Thunder vs Foxton Flyers

In the 2nd game of the day on Court 1, both Aircare Thunder and Foxton Flyers came out strong with the score at 12–9 to Aircare at the end of the 1st quarter. Despite some great defending from Flyers’ Jackie Latham, Aircare had extended their lead to 26-18 at half-time with Maisy Williamson's strong shooting skills in the circle. Flyers kept going and managed to pull the score back to within 5 points in the 3rd quarter, with Aircare leading by 37-32. The final quarter saw some excellent pressure and interceptions at both ends with Heather Wainwright and Grace Clarke's partnership for Aircare, and by Lucy Goodman for the Flyers. Aircare however took the win with a final score of 49-44.

 

Harborough Harriers vs Club Correze

Harriers were first on the score board with Correze taking the next three goals, Harriers quickly balanced this, and the 1st quarter was looking almost even.

Next two quarters saw Correze move up a gear with Kim Walton showing her magic in the shooting area leaving a very different score line at the end of the third quarter.

Harriers dug deep the last quart, Emma Walker and Sian Gander fought hard to pull back the goal difference scoring an impressive 12 goals to Club Correze’s 8. Harriers were also impressive in mid field and Olivia Hartley was stoic in defence.

Correze however delivered an all-round great performance worthy of the win. Final score 54-29.

 

Siamo Sirens vs Vanelli Vixens

The last game of the day saw the Vanelli Vixens on top form in the 1st quarter, leading Siamo Sirens by 17-4. Liv O’Brien worked hard throughout the court, with team-mate Claire Wright showing a solid defence for Siamo's, however the Vixens continued to show excellence, leading 29-12 at half-time. In the 3rd quarter there was some fantastic shooting from Louise Boston at GS for Siamo's and they managed to have their most successful quarter. However, the Vixen’s Lily Porteous and Lydia Grandidge made a great team in defence and prevented many more goals going in. Coming into the final quarter both teams showed determination and grit, the game ending with a score of 57-27 to the Vixens.
